So now that I've read what Ryan just wrote...totally tearing up! I don't think that we've ever actually talked about how it felt to see each other for the first time on our wedding day. Everything happened so quickly and it feels like we've just been full steam ahead, never looking back! Our sweet moment didn't last long enough...it was time to take pictures! Lots of pictures. These are just some of our favorites. Remember - summer = hot and I had the swine flu. I think with those 2 facts, Lauren Wright did a fabulous job making us look good! :)

Surprise!

So it has been a while since I've written anything on here. So in my last post, I was talking about relaxing at our cabin/lodge before going to get ready. We had all sorts of room there, so the pre-getting ready was effortless.

We drove out to the church, and I parked my car front and center. The grooms room was a little tight, but at least it was very well air conditioned. We all took our time, got ready, and just hung out.

Then came time for me to step outside and wait for my bride. Picture this: Late August, Augusta is in the south, late afternoon, not to mention nerves for seeing her for the first time. Oh and yeah, 100% wool tux. Doesn't reading that just make you sweat? Well I sure was.

I was told to stand outside, facing a red side door to the church. I had an idea of what was happening, but I mean, who knows how long I'd have to wait and how it was going to go. The suspense was thrilling in a way. Corrie had spent months and months looking for this perfect dress, and getting everything ready for the big day. She has seen me in a tux before (at least in pictures) so my wardrobe wasn't really of concern. (I did look good though).

I didn't even hear her coming up behind me. Maybe it was my nerves, maybe it was just the sounds of downtown Augusta echoing in the courtyard that we were in. I felt a hand take mine from behind. I turned around and saw, for the very first time, my beautiful bride. In that moment, even with everything going on, I stopped sweating. My nerves relaxed, my body cooled itself, and that moment I just... stopped sweating. It was like all of my stress, worry, nerves... Just gone. Joy swept over me; Time slowed down. Cars in the background moved slowly. That moment of sheer joy was frozen in time. As the moment set in, everything sped back up. I can't remember what was said, just that we both had huge smiles on our face. Everything was taking shape.

Ok, so back to the wedding. Last time we left off, I was finishing getting dressed & ready. Then it was time to go out & see Ryan for the first time! We debated a lot, whether or not we should see each other before the ceremony. What it came down to for me was just how excited I knew I'd be to see him, and I'd want to see him as soon as possible that day. There was just something about being able to spend that moment, just the two of us. And besides that, it gave us more time for pictures :)

So I snuck around through the front of the church with my bridesmaids...I really didn't know what to expect. Was I surprising him or was he surprising me?

At this point, I was just holding my breath. I couldn't believe he couldn't hear me and I totally expected him to turn at any moment.

Hello! All I remember in this moment is my heart beating fast and a wash of relief, joy and peace. We had been through a lot together and it was all building up to this.



I will never forget this smile :)

summer update

Ah, whoops! Missed a whole summer of blogging. And guess what? In just 4 days, we'll be celebrating 1 year of marriage! Time has really flown. So, now I have a crazy goal. Finish blogging about our wedding before our anniversary! And I have a crazy goal for Ryan - finish writing thank you notes. I am so, so, so sorry if you haven't gotten a thank you note yet. We wanted them to be personal and heartfelt, so we divided them up according to who knew the gift giver best. I guess that wasn't really fair since you could say I'm a professional writer and Ryan isn't :)

I will write up a better, longer update with our goings-on from the summer. For now, just want to express thanks for all the friends & relatives who have reminded and encouraged me to keep blogging. I didn't realize that many people still wanted to read it!

April update

Oh my...I'm afraid married life has made me a bad blogger. It seems like every time I get going again, I just as quickly stop for weeks at a time!

Anyway, here's a little update on all things Duckworth!

I got to travel to Portland for work - went to the Leverage Con Con. I didn't get too much free time, but got to go up in a skybucket of sorts to see some of the surrounding mountains. Absolutely gorgeous!



For work, we got to do a lot of behind-the-scenes shooting of the cast, which was cool. But even cooler for me was interacting with our super-super-super-fans! They are CRAZY about Leverage and it was great talking with them, hearing their stories, understanding why they love the show so much. Sometimes it's hard for me to see any fulfillment in my job, but when I see how much the fans love the show firsthand, it really brings new meaning to my work!







Then we went down to Orlando for Braves spring training and a free day at Disney, since we volunteered at Beats, a place that uses horses to help rehabilitate kids with diseases like cerebral palsy.

The Braves played the Nationals and won, and we got to see Chipper Jones up close from our seats on the lawn right in front of 3rd base. We also got to meet Brooks Conrad, and Ryan got Terry Pendleton to sign his jersey. It was a beautiful, fun weekend!






Then came probably our most exciting trip - the MASTERS! My dad let us use one of his practice round 3 badges, so I went in the AM and Ryan went in the afternoon. I have lived in Augusta pretty much all my life, and it was a dream come true to finally go to Augusta National. Bobby Jones is one of my all time favorite sports heroes. To see his course and walk his dream, it was pretty amazing! So much history and legend there.

When I went, I saw Tiger, he was really nice and smiley the whole time we watched. We watched him for 2 or 3 holes, then went down to 16 and waited to see Cink come around. 16 is awesome because the players have fun and skip their balls over the water to the hole. Then we went over to Amen Corner and just soaked it all in. The azaleas weren't in full bloom, but it was still breathtaking! We also enjoyed pimento cheese sandwiches :) I got to take a picture with Magnolia Lane and Founders Circle, and then it was time to switch. Ryan got to see most of the par 3 contest, including such legends as Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, and Gary Player. I was uber jealous of him! ;) He also got Cink's autograph on his favorite GT hat. Now he can't wear it any more, hehe!

So then we made our way to the church and our room for final preparations.

Something borrowed, old & blue!

This ring belonged to my grandma (I affectionately called her Nana). When she passed away, my mom got most of her jewelry, and this ring was one of her favorites. So my mom let me borrow it :) I was so happy to have something of Nana's to carry down the aisle, I know she would have loved to be there in person. I was very, very close to her!

Ryan's mom gave me a beautiful handkerchief with my new initials. I wrapped it around my bouquet and carried it down the aisle as well! She wrote me a beautiful note that made me tear up and want to cry. I'm so blessed to be a part of the Duckworth family!


And the preparations are completed with something new...my dress!


I only had to use the bathroom once that day, thank goodness! It was a beast to get on & off and the bride's bathroom was the size of a refrigerator. Not easy to get in & out of even without a big dress on. Thank you Holly & Ashley for helping me out :) True friends!

good news!

So in addition to our new addition Kumquat, we have some other good news! I got a promotion at TNT so I am now a Writer/Producer. Over the winter, I worked on The Closer and Leverage. Now I'm working on Saving Grace and a new show, Rizzoli & Isles. Good (& very busy) times ahead! I'll be leaving this week for work at the Leverage Con Con event in Portland, Oregon. I doubt I will have much free time, but if you have any suggestions of things to see or food to eat in the city, let me know!

It's been a year since Ryan got layed off at his old company. So we have really been counting our blessings in God's continual provision. Ryan is doing really well at his company and was the first "new guy" to get a bonus for sales in January. So proud of him!
